It is my honour to take the reins from Ged Couser and become the President of our historic society.

I have been an active part of the society’s council for over 5 years and will further commit to building on Ged’s, and the wider team’s, excellent work to push the society’s position forward.

I am passionate about our profession but believe we are facing an uncertain future.

Architects are being increasingly marginalised within the wider construction industry thanks to the false perception that we are only interested in design with little concern for commerciality. And yet, I think we can all agree the world is a better place with a healthy, diverse community of architects, whom above all, are the true ambassadors of quality within the built environment.

Therefore, it is my aim for this term to strive to make our profession more relevant and further engage with other industry players. We can lead
by example and become the most forward-thinking and professional society in the country.

I don’t believe we need to reinvent our role, however, we must use our collective experience and knowledge to achieve our goal of creating
a prosperous profession. It will be difficult but together we can help change the current perception of our profession to give architects relevance and, ultimately, influence.
